**Government Funding is Available for Eligible Individuals

A set of skills to follow organisational infection prevention and control policies and procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks in the workplace.
This skill set is for individuals working in various capacities in a health and community service setting who require the skills and knowledge to decrease the risk of and transmission of infection whilst carrying out their daily duties.

HLTSS00064 – Infection control Skill Set comprises of the

HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks.

This unit applies to individuals working in health and direct client care contexts.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Participants will learn a range of skills including:

  • Identify infection hazards and assess risks
  • How to prevent the spread and transmission of infection
  • Maintaining a clean work environment
  • Hand hygiene and care of hands
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • Handling of waste
  • Enforcing clean and contaminated zones
  • Limitation of contamination
  • Surface cleaning for infection control
  • Identify infection hazards and assess risks
  • Best practice virus and bacteria infection and control
  • appropriate protocols and responses in the event of an incident
  • the basis of infection and transmission
  • Identifying, separating, and maintaining clean and contaminated zones; and keeping relevant materials confined within

There are no formal entry requirements for the Infection Control course. However, it is preferred that you:

  • Are aged 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English or equivalent)

The Infection Control Skill Set is funded for those working in Health & Community Services sector

Candidates who are seeking to do this course:

  • Are not required to hold a previously awarded qualification
  • May hold an existing qualification at any level
  • Are not required to be an Australian resident to access a funded place

To successfully complete this skill set, the candidate will need to initiate contact with a workplace in the chosen industry. A range of workplaces/roles available will include but not limited to:

  • Fast food / Fresh food supply chain
  • Customer service environment (any industry)
  • Aged Care centres
  • Health industry and Medical Workers
  • Cleaning staff
  • Transport and Logistics
  • Retail /Hospitality / Tourism industries
  • Community Service workers / Disability Care

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding. To qualify for funding, you must be employed in a job where you are in direct contact with customers and not have previously completed an Infection Control Skill Set course. Funded places for this course are open to anyone who is working with in Victoria regardless of their residential status or visa conditions.

If eligible for funding, there is no fees for participating in this training. If you are not eligible for a funded place the fee is $400.

  • This course includes one unit of competency that complies with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Students must complete this unit in 12 months of time
  • All training and assessment materials are available at the campus

Enrolment Requirements

There are no official admission requirements for the infection control process. However, ACPS has some minor guidelines:

  • Applicant must be 18+ of age
  • The applicant should have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English or equivalent)

Candidates who want to pursue this course are not necessitated to have:

  • Any prior advance qualifications
  • Australian citizenship to access the funded section

Documents that you need to produce at the time of enrolment are:

  • Any official photo ID (Driver’s License or Passport)
  • Enrolment/admission form
  • Unique student identification number (USI)
  • Completed language, literacy, and numeracy skills proof

Fees

  • This course is available for funding for eligible students, who are not required to pay any fee.
  • For non- eligible candidates, this course costs around $400.
